Some will insist that disembodied voices are simply impossible, and that’s that, because there is no such thing as spirits and the mind exists only in the brain. I am asking myself, well, how would they explain all this if they had to? Perhaps there really is a way. So I have wracked my brains trying to think of a purely material-world explanation. After long thought, I have come up with two possibilities, but I’m afraid both of them are quite unsatisfactory.
The first is as follows: Regular, physical human beings from the future used advanced technology to cause voices to appear out of the air in various locations on Earth at various times during the 20th century. For reasons known only to themselves, they followed certain individuals and caused these manifestations to occur in their presence over periods of many years. A large number of future humans were involved, accounting for the many different voices and personalities heard. They had very detailed knowledge of the persons whose identities they were trying to fake, and they were able to speak a number of different languages.
The second is pretty much like the first, except that instead of humans from the future, it involves aliens.
Of course, these are terrible explanations. Any ideas? Can you do better? Seriously?
